How do we work/create together in ways that foster intimacy in the virtual space? How can we be neighbourly virtually and what does it mean for actual bodies in real embodied spaces? What are the crises of care in our neighbourhood in virtual space | time and how do we act | respond | engage?
Organized as part of the Constellate 2021 program of Performance Studies international, Neighbourhoods Virtual ‘Roro’ Journey was a series of online events organized by the Performance and Critical Social Praxis Working Group, which happened every month from March to October 2021 across 5 continents and 8 timezones. The Neighbourhoods programme represents a virtual, transnational ‘roro’ journey, a travel practice explored in the Philippine archipelago by Jazmin Badong Llana and colleagues. Exploring how intimacy can be sustained online amidst the pandemic, the events were each held in a specific ‘neighbourhood’, and explored the meanings and possibilities of that term.
